Solapur Gangwar Movie Review : A story of a gang-war

Story: Based on real events, the film revolves around gangwar in Solapur. Trying to become the don of the city, Rakya gets into a vicious circle of gangwar where destroying his enemies is the only way to survive

Review: Many films have been made on the subject of gang war in Bollywood and Marathi and Solapur Gangwar is nothing different. The movie opens with a narrative of how how Anna (Rajendra Jadhav), a mill worker, becomes the don of the city.
Then, while Anna is preparing for elections, Rakya (Pramod Sarawade) a common man start emerging as a Bhai. Soon, his friends join him and he starts establishing himself as a don.

Inevitably, he gets into fight with Chandya (Maruti Katkar), the younger brother of Anna, and before too long, the gang wars begin. Who beats whom in a struggle for control over the city, forms the remainder of the film.

With a Solapuri dialect, Pramod Sarawade gives his best, but fails to leave a mark on the audience. Rajendra Jadhav and Vikrant Shinde too, deliver good performances, though Vikrant appears to be trying too hard towards the end of the film.

Between all the action, the film also features the sub plot of Rakya's love story with Rohini (Pranali Bhalerao). Known for her role in the film Takatak, Pranali has very less screen time, but her acting still stands out.

Save for the competent cinematography and editing, there is very little in terms of story that Solapur Gangwar has to offer. Watch this one only for the action.

Sweety Satarkar Movie Review : A potpourri of comedy and drama

Review: Sweety Satarkar is high on entertainment quotient, but not in terms of story. The story of a college girl trying to win over a serious guy is not new to the screen, but director Shabbir Naik has managed to make this a somewhat hilarious watch infusing fresh comedy in it.

The first half of the movie follows Sweety’s (Amruta Deshmukh) everyday life in Kolhapur - her campus tussles with boys, her foul temper and fun-filled friendships. She has a huge crush on Shekhar (Sangram Samel), the elder brother of her best friend, and towards the end of the first half, decides to win him over. She tries everything - from cooking sheera (halwa) to wearing a traditional saree to impress him, but Shekhar seems uninterested. Her life takes a turn when she learns that Shekhar is about to get married to his childhood friend. That’s when she decides to up her ante and from then on, the movie gets interesting.

Performance-wise, Amruta is a one-woman army in the film when it comes to making the audience laugh. She does justice to Sweety’s innocent yet quirky personality on-screen. Sangram Samel fits the part of Shekhar too. The USP of the film is its comedy, cinematography and songs that manage to keep it colourful. However, holding the viewer's attention is not something this film does.

Review: With Vikun Taak, director Sameer Patil who gave us Poshter Boyz, Shentimental and Poshter Girl, continues his tradition of comedies movie with a social message. With the bank waiting to seize his property and wedding cancelled, Mukund (Shivraj Waichal) gets introduced to the art of selling scrap through an app, just as his life starts to unravel. But things really get out of hand when he receives a credit of `50 lakhs from Abdul Latif (Chunky Panday), who wants a kidney!

Sameer Patil has delivered a complete package once again. Though the movie is about the rollercoaster life of the protagonist, it’s a smooth experience for the viewers. Though it gets off to a slow start, the story picks up at a steady pace and has the audience hooked by the interval.

Despite having less screen time, Chunky Panday delivers a good performance and leaves an impression with his unique dialogue delivery. Shivraj does justice to his character, but Hrishikesh Joshi, who plays a corrupt police inspector, does not convince.

While the film delivers quite a few laughs, it is not a laughter riot owing to its underlying social message. There are also a few serious and emotional scenes. But Sameer Patil does a good job of weaving all this together, and the result is a refreshing film that delivers a message without being preachy.
